Advice I would give to my younger self if I was just starting a small painting business... Start early. Answer the phone... Always treat everyone with respect and kindness. Dress and act professionally. Set firm policies and boundaries. Make an exceptions. Respect yourself and others will too. Book flexibility into your schedule. Be a problem solver. Don't complain unless you are willing to do something about it. Treat competitors and suppliers like your best customer. Stay organized and up to date with paper work, finances and scheduling. Charge more than you think you're worth. Finish each job completely. Ask for help when you need it. Invest in tools, not toys. Don't stop learning. Don't panic. And wear a bleedin' dust musk.
